BY The WMG Bride | 29 Mar, 2015 | 8556 views | 3 min read

So you have maxed out the credit card with all the gorgeous pieces bought for your trousseau. Now is the time when you transfer all these outfits from your old house to your new house and there are a bunch of questions that you need answers to such as - how to transport them, how to store and care for your trousseau saris, and how to preserve your bridal lehenga. Well, hang on a second because there are a bunch of cool trousseau packing truths you should know. Wedding trunks Our mums all had them, and then suddenly they kind of went out of vogue. But we firmly believe that every bride deserves a gorgeous  trunk for all her wedding clothes. It could be an heirloom passed down, or for example these fabulously stylish hand painted trunks by Ruhani Arora. These are perfect to transport all your outfits from one house to another, and for storing your heavy bridal outfit later on as well. 1-trousseau packing trunks3-trousseau packing trunks-002

Saree bags

One of the things you would definitely want to buy are saree bags. If you let sarees hang on their own inside a cupboard, the embroidery rubs against each other and causes saree material to tear a bit. These are of two types. One type is a basic plastic covering in which you keep your folded saree, and the other is a longer saree bag made out of organza that comes attached with a hanger. We recommend the hanger variety as sarees can bunch up inside the plastic ones. Plus the hanger variety come in really cute, quilting materials and you can have fun with them

Saree bags and hangers are the best way to store your trousseau saris. Find these at any trousseau packer mentioned here

Packing the bridal outfit

Considering you have spent a sizeable amount of money into your bridal outfit- Make sure this has been packed with each item covered in muslin/ organza seperately. Outfits with heavy gold work can go black if not kept wrapped in muslin inside a cool , dry place like a trunk.  You would want to fold your lehenga skirt in half and keep that aside.

Caring for your jewellery

For Polki and Kundan sets: These are super prone to moisture and chances are if you keep them in velvet boxes provided by the jewellery they may not avoid moisture well enough and lose shine over time. The best things to do would be to wrap these in either butter paper or cotton and  put them in airtight containers so that they are in a cool, dry place without exposure to moisture.   For Diamonds: Diamonds can get scratched by other diamonds so avoid jumbling them up into one bag together. To ensure your diamond sets look clear and shining, take a mug of warm water and add in your detergent powder and shake well. Soak your diamond rings in them for a few hours and wipe them with a muslin cloth when out for diamonds that shine as bright as new ones.   For Gold: Keep it wrapped in soft cloth or velvet boxes with each piece separately. You can clean it in a similar way as mentioned for diamonds above, but keep them far from products containing chlorine or cleansers containing chlorine.
