BY The WMG Bride | 16 Mar, 2016 | 5317 views | 7 min read

You've dreamed about that perfect wedding... you've literally spent blood, sweat and tears planning it... not to forget all that money! But all that planning, all that effort feels worthless when something goes majorly wrong right before or during the wedding! In all that panic that sets in, no one is able to think properly about how to go about solving the problem rather than harping on it. Don't worry! We've got your back. Here are the 5 most common ceremonial mishaps that can happen during your wedding, and ways to avoid them!

Mishap 1: It starts raining!

Thanks to climate change, untimely rain has become pretty common, as they are just not limited to the monsoon season. You might have the prettiest décor for the perfect open air wedding, with hanging lamps and intricate props, but all that hard work can be ruined with just one downpour. To make things worse, it becomes all 'khich-khich' with puddles that can ruin the expensive outfits and shoes your guests are wearing. Solution: Be aware of the weather forecast for your wedding day a good 10-15 days in advance. Use Accuweather app, pretty much stays on point. Always put your food in a covered area, so that even it starts raining, people can crowd near the food area.  If it starts raining a day or two before the wedding, then you definitely have enough time on your hands to incorporate some rain-proofing plans like a pretty tent on top or outdoor umbrellas... your vendor can give you options, so discuss this beforehand. If you don't want to do that, you can also choose to have a backup indoor venue set up just in case. Make sure to have some valets stand at the entrance or at the parking with umbrellas to usher the guests in if it's open. Also, your hair might get frizzy thanks to the rain, so make sure you tell your MUA to pack in extra anti-frizz hairspray! On the bright side, it is 'superstitiously' considered lucky if it rains on your wedding, and don't forget to get a couple-picture with an umbrella and the raindrops... it looks amazing!

Mishap 2: You wake up with a massive zit!

Every girl takes so much effort to look her absolute best at the wedding... be it by losing weight or taking extra care of her hair and skin. But just like rain, a zit can come up without warning, and it can be absolutely heart-shattering to have one just before or on your wedding day! Solution: The correct anti-pimple cream can make a big difference in subsiding the pimple, as can warm and cold compresses. If the pimple is super angry and flaring on the wedding day itself, then try toothpaste over it to flatten out the bump, because once the bump disappears the redness can be made to disappear via concealer!

Mishap 3: Stuck Zipper

Everyone who has every worn a blouse or a skirt will tell you that at least once the zipper got stuck! Solution: Rub a candle over the zipper, as the wax helps the stuck zipper ease up. If all else fails then let your makeup artist sow on your blouse - better than safety pins and doesn't show.

Mishap 4: You wake up sick.. or worse, with your period!

Yes, what can be worse than feeling like you want to spend the whole day in bed on the day of your wedding? Things need to be done and you need to look your absolute best... how can that happen when you're sick or in pain? Either you or the groom could unluckily fall sick in the run up to or on the wedding, and for us women, there's always 'that time of the month' which we could forget in the chaos or get early due to stress! Solution: Take some precautions in the run up to the wedding. Wash hands more regularly, and try to control your urge to eat roadside food. Don't take too much stress and try and be calm... meditating can help, use this app called Calm. If you do feel like you're gonna come down with something, visit the doc.. do not take it lightly just before the wedding. It could ruin your wedding and your honeymoon! Track your period a couple of months before the wedding date. If you know for sure that your period will coincide with the wedding, then your gyne can tell you options on how to bring forward or delay your period. Also remember, stress can change the period dates, especially if you already have an irregular cycle, so keep calm!

Mishap 5: Too much delay!

Another common problem, especially at Indian weddings is that either the Baraat got late 'coz they got stuck in traffic or for some other reason, or the MUA took too long so the bride wasn't ready on time. Family members will wait no matter what. But there are a lot of guests who come drop in for the wedding and have to go back disappointed because things did not go as per the timings on the invite. Solution: If you know your wedding is going to be on a busy day and time because the date is 'auspicious' or 'coz the location has multiple weddings, like say, Chhattarpur road in Delhi, then you can consider staying or getting dressed at the venue itself... the Baraat can just take a round around and come, and the bride too can call the MUA over and get dressed right there. Going to the parlour and then coming back can be quite hectic, especially if it is during peak traffic time. Also, both the families mutually discussing a 'time' and 'buffer time' beforehand can prevent awkwardness and apologies!

Mishap 6: Fancy equipment issues

A lot of people want fancy props on their weddings, like flower showers and a hydraulic revolving stage, which might sound and look very nice, but not until something goes wrong. The couple might keep waiting for the flower shower before garlanding each other, and the stage just might not move when you want! It can be super embarrassing or someone could even get hurt. Solution: Have a plan B always and make someone responsible for doing a test run about an hour before it's scheduled to happen. Even if you have a flower shower planned, distribute rose petals amongst guests so that in case that doesn't work, you can exchange garlands normally and the guests can throw petals on you.

Mishap 7: Music issues

If the correct music doesn't play during the bridal entrance... that moment is ruined and gone forever! Also, a lot of 'DJs' at weddings just play random songs at weddings without caring, so you might just have 'I wanna f*** you' playing with kids dancing to it! Solution: When it comes to crucial moments like the bridal entrance and the Jaimala, have someone be right next to the 'DJ' to make sure the correct music is queued and plays on time. Also, just going through the guy's random playlist before the function can help in avoiding uncomfortable songs which are just not apt for weddings!

Mishap 8: Sangeet CD gets stuck

So your perfectly choreographed routine now doesn't work at the DJ's . What to do? Solution: Ask if you can borrow the laptop of someone working in the venue and connect it to the DJ. That should usually solve the problem. However to be prepared before hand, always carry your music both in a pen drive and CD so that if one doesn't work you have a backup Did you experience any of these mishaps at your wedding? How did you handle it?
