Postponing destination weddings can be painful since it’s a different city or even country that you are dealing with. The rules, cases in that area may be completely different from your hometown. Along with that the planning as well as monies involved are very different from an in-city wedding. Due to the current dire situation, travelling to the destination may be out of question, unless it’s at a motor able distance. Whether you can or cannot travel, here is a step-by-step guide to what you must do while postponing a destination wedding!

First Step, Decide Whether You Want To Postpone Or Do A Virtual Wedding

Before you hurry on to cancel anything, you need to decide whether you want to postpone your destination wedding to a later date or do a virtual wedding instead. This way you will get married on the date you decided on, just that your guests will attend it virtually. Once you have decided this, you can take your next steps!

Second Step, Get In Touch With Your Wedding Venue And Planning Team

While everyone is aware about the situation in the country, it’s imperative that you contact your venue and planning team to let them know that they wedding will be postponed. Most venues have been understanding and have agreed to postpone, get a confirmation. Check with them if there will be any extra charges involved or if you plan to cancel, then how much refund will be allocated. Since your destination wedding venues will be in different cities or even countries, it’s prudent to get all these confirmations over official emails. If the property you are looking at does not have any availability that works for you, inquire about a sister property. It could be an option, if your deposit is transferable. Only once you get clarity on this, proceed to the next steps.

Third Step, Talk To All Your Vendors!

Once you have sorted your venue woes, get in touch with all your vendors and update them about the new changes. This is vital because all your vendors may have booked extra days for your wedding, given it’s a destination wedding so ensure that all vendors are notified and all postponement issues are cleared.

Fourth Step, Check All Permissions

Check all your licences. For a destination wedding there are a number of licences and permissions you need. If your planning team has already paid/booked those, ensure that they are cancelled/postponed.

Fifth Step, Cancel All Your Travel Tickets

Whether you were flying your guests in for your wedding or by road, cancel all those tickets. Also check if the governments of those states/countries have cancelled flights on your dates. If that is the case, you get full refunds!

Sixth Step, Let Your Guests Know!

Create a creative or simply pick up your phone and let guests know you have decided to postpone due to unforeseen circumstances right away. Let them know that you apologize for any inconvenience, but the decision was not made lightly. Given the current situation, everyone will understand!
