A Fairytale Wedding for an Acid Attack Survivor Who Has the Sweetest Love Story!

BY Latha Sunadh | 27 May, 2017 | 906 views | 3 min read

An unlikely love story, an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla Lehenga, a beautiful mandap and a Bollywood star in attendance. No! This isn't the description of some dream destination wedding, but that of acid attack survivor who had a fairytale wedding to the man of her dreams!

26 year old Lalitha Benbansi, a resident of Kalwa in Mumbai was attacked by her cousins with acid after a petty fight in 2012. She survived, scarred and burnt, mostly on her face but did not let her spirit die. Lalita has already undergone 17 surgeries, and has 12 more surgeries ahead of her.

And she has the cutest love story! Her now-husband Rahul Kumar, who hails from Ranchi and works as a data entry operator in Malad, Mumbai, tells it in the cutest way!

"Sirf ek wrong number ne meri zindagi badal di! Three months ago, I got a missed call from an unknown number. When I called back, I was scolded and I disconnected the call. "I called again after 15 days to
explain what had happened.”

Yup, one missed call. That’s what it took to begin their unlikely love story.

Rahul elaborates, “Within 15 days of talking to Lalita, she told me her face was burnt. I told her, 'Jinka chehra jala hota hai unki life nahi hoti kya? Tum bus tayaar ho, main tumse shaadi karunga (Does someone whose face is burnt not have a life? You get ready, I am going to marry you)' and she agreed."

"My parents had a love marriage so they didn't have any problem with my choice," he adds.

An NGO, Saahas foundation helped Lalita with her rehabilitation, and so did actor Vivek Oberoi, who gifted them a flat! Designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla gifted Lalita her bridal trousseau and a wedding necklace. They even uploaded a sweet message on their Insta.

Social media went gaga over their sweet love story and wedding photos and support poured in for Lalita from everywhere- applauding her for her courage and Rahul for the pillar of support that he has been to her.

We congratulate the newly-wed couple and wish all good things for them!
