A Hyderabad Wedding at Alankrita Resorts: Sonam & Rahul

Hyderabad's old world, nizami charm is perhaps  the perfect backdrop for a big fat Indian wedding. Add to the mix a setting such as Aalankrita resorts, and you have got yourself a non-destination, destination wedding that is a blast for the entire family. From Sindhura & RV's elegant telegu affair to Sonam and Rahuls royal Gujarati affair- the city of Nawabs (or like we say..the city of Biryani!) is home to some of the most colorful weddings you would have seen. This particular one  is going to give you a lesson  in shopping from Kolkata (take notes girls)

Meet Sonam & Rahul

Sonam says "I can't really pinpoint how we met first, because I have known him for ages. We have been family friends for a very long time, and recently tied the knot"

The  Japsapmiti

Love the green velvet blouse detailing against the orange-gold Kanjivaram and thats the first time we have seen a Kanji worn in a seedha pallu.

The Haldi

So many yellows in one frame. Adore . Also love the traditional jewellery on the girl

Sangeet

Sangeet performance inside a Zorbing ball? That would have taken SOME practice huh! I wanna know how she managed to get inside that ball in that lehenga !!

The Wedding

Pretty Embroidery detailing on the skirt. Vendor details given below

Hi Sonam, your functions definitely look very interesting. Tell us more! It all started with a function called Wadi papad-this is a function where all the married ladies make wadi, papad and churn haldi which is applied on the day of the wedding. This was a low key affair after which we had our 'Youngsters party' like they call it at 10 Downing Street - which is one of Hyderabads most fun nightspots and has been around for ages. For the main wedding events, all of us moved to Alankrita resorts which is where we had a Japsamiti- this is a function where ladies sing Bhajans followed by Aarti. The real fun started at the Sangeet, followed by the wedding and reception! For our baraat we had these floral umbrellas instead of the usual ones- that was a really interesting detail I thought that you dont see often , and oh yes...we had our sangeet performance in a Zorbing ball!! I always wanted a traditional look  and I chose outfits that reflected just that. Most of my shopping for the lehengas I did from Kolkata (vendor details given below), except for the Kanjivaram which was from Hyderabad itself. My dad and my husband are both into jewellery so that aspect was always sorted ;)

Any vendors who did a fab job?

Tamanna Rooz did a fabulous job in ensuring I had a traditional look- the kind I wanted for each event, while still mixing it up to keep it interesting

Raafia Syed our photography also did a great job at capturing candid moments.

Tara Caterers had the most yummy vegetarian food to ensure the guests were always sufficiently stuffed !

Tamanna Rooz (Makeup Artist) is on our WMG Handbook. (We are still in the process of compiling our handbook for Hyderabad, however you can check our existing members out here). To know how members are chosen please read our FAQ
