A Modern Delhi Wedding For Childhood Sweethearts Who Tweaked Traditions!

BY Sakshi | 26 May, 2020 | 3876 views | 5 min read

11 years! That's how long this couple dated- and when you hear a love story like that, you can't help but feel all warm and fuzzy. Sanah and Rahul's love has travelled through Delhi, Dubai and Spain, and it all culminated with a lovely Punjabi wedding in Delhi. The couple chose to do it their own way, by tweaking some traditions in a wedding which was all about love and having a good time with their near and dear ones. The photos by Folio Haus ★ 4.8 captured all the excitement and the venue Amour made the wedding look picture perfect!

Meet Sanah and Rahul

"I moved to Dubai from Delhi in 2003 and joined an Indian school (DPS) where we first bumped into Rahul. He has been born and brought up in Dubai but originally also hails from Delhi. We met when we were in grade 6, started dating in grade 11 and have been together ever since 2009. Highschool sweethearts! Finally got married in 2020 after 11 years of dating each other. We did our schooling in Dubai, studied bachelors together in Delhi and then masters in Spain! It's been a good time."

The Mehendi & Haldi

"We opted for a combined Mehendi and Haldi vs doing them separately. For the Mehendi, we went with bright hues of pink, peach, yellow and orange! The planners made sure to incorporate all the elements that I had asked for like a swing, a rustic bar, photobooth with a rickshaw, etc."

The Cocktail

"For the cocktail, the planners decorated the farm beautifully in candles, mirrors and fairylights! The place looked like a dream and gave off a glamorous vibe to the evening. They created a customized bar menu using our family names using the invitation card theme."

The Wedding

"My bridal outfit was custom made with gold dabka work all over. For the wedding, the planners did a fabulous job creating the modern yet royal look for the event. The vedi was decorated giving an ombre color gradient with flowers. The planners ensured a smooth transitions in background music from my entry to the pheras following into a party!"

From The Bride:

We both loved the concept of having an authentic punjabi wedding in our hometown, Delhi but our style is minimalistic. Elements of decor were designed keeping this in mind. We made sure the traditions were performed with a modern twist, for example, we did early evening pheras vs the traditional 4 am pheras, we opted for a combined mehendi and haldi vs doing them seperately. Our wedding was full of masti, shor, sharaba attended by friends and family from all over the world.

Vendor Reviews

Wedding Planning, Decor & Invitations: Eventara
Our wedding planner was Eventara. Ours was their first wedding and it was executed to perfection! They really understood what we were looking for and conceptualised every detail extremely well. The wedding planners also helped us with our wedding invites! We went with pastel, watercolored invitations for our wedding. The same theme was used throughout different elements of the wedding, including the welcome note for all our guests, entry welcome banners, etc. The planners also arranged tasting with caterers and everyone raved about the food a lot! I highly recommend Eventara! It didnt feel like this was their first wedding event.

Venue: Amour, Gurgaon
Amour is a new venue that launched last year. We loved the place when we went to visit it. The place had a modern yet a royal feel. We opted for a half indoor-half outdoor set up. Our mandap/vedi was outdoors to take advantage of the beautiful February winter weather while the food and seating were indoors. The staff was cordial and helpful. Everything went smoothly!

Makeup Artist: Vandana Ojha
My make up artist for all events was Vandana Ojha. She was great! We met once prior to the wedding to discuss all my looks for each function where she gave me her recommendations and showed me different color shades for my skin type. On the day of the functions, she was on time, working with a smile. She got the hairstylist with her who was also very good. We went for a bright colorful look for the mehendi as it was during the day. She played with different color hues that suited my skintone. For the cocktail, she did a smoky look in purple to go with my lavender gown and diamond jewelry. Lastly, for the wedding, we went with a royal look with a focus on doing gold, halo eyes. I was very satisfied with her work and highly recommend her. She even did the make up for my sister and mom for two functions!

Photographer: Foliohaus
Our photographer was Foliohaus. Their instagram handle is @foliohaus. Parth & team were very easy going and did a great job. We got some great photos! My only critique for them is that they captured more of the action vs all family members.

Bridal Outfits: Binita Tanna, Matsya
My Mehendi outfit was from a Mumbai based designer, Binita Tanna. She exhibits in seasonally in Dubai and I found my lehenga at one of her private exhibitions in Dubai. I wore a yellow lehenga color blocked with an orange blouse and parrot green dupatta. Loved this colorful bright look for the mehendi. Another outfit was from Matsya, a label by Utkarsh Ahuja in Delhi. Their staff was very helpful in helping my choose my outfits. The showroom in Naraina is very well made but the tailoring could have been better. I went for multiple trials.

Mehendi Artist: Vijay Mehendi Artist
My mehendi artist was a local vendor from Delhi. His team did a good job! My mehendi color was very dark.
