So while the wedding day is considered as a 'once in a lifetime' event for everyone, it's also treated the same way. For a lot of us, we spend a small little fortune on our bridal trousseau, especially the bridal outfit for the day of the wedding, and then that outfit never sees the light of day again. Since it's 'too bridal' or 'cannot be worn to anyone else's wedding', it goes into the corner of the wardrobe which is equivalent to a deep freezer. But we are glad to see new-age brides change the rules and choosing to wear their bridal outfits again! They are making wiser bridal choices, picking ensembles that are lighter, easier to wear again- and leading the way is Alia Bhatt.
After she wore her bridal saree again for another landmark day in her life, she has now taken a step further. For a big Bollywood Diwali bash at designer Manish Malhotra's house, she rewore her mehendi lehenga from her wedding, which was also designed by MM.
The lehenga by itself is a special one, a sustainable one which was made from about 180 pieces of fabric from across the country with different work and embroidery. Truly a work of art! She styled it differently this time, with a bun and statement earrings unlike on her mehendi.
And this isn't the only bridal outfit of hers that she has repeated! She set an example by rewearing her pretty Sabyasachi ivory and gold saree recently, and it was quite a moment!
Alia Bhatt's bridal look was one that was not heavy because of the outfit she wore. It was a light ivory and gold Sabyasachi saree that was styled to look bridal thanks to the jewellery and accessories. And she rewore the same outfit again while accepting her National Award, and we think it was refreshing to see an actress do that!
She styled the ivory and gold saree very differently, this time with a messy bun with roses in true Gangubai style. She also wore a pearl choker and big polki studs to complete the look.
A very nice gesture to celebrate another big milestone in her life- could not have been more apt! She shared about reusing her outfit too, which we think is going to normalise it in a big way, a very welcome step!
So brides-to-be, take a cue! Invest in a trousseau which is sustainable, debunking the notion that your expensive bridal lehenga is only a one-time wear!
