Dear 2018 Brides, Here Are My 6 Wishes From You

It's the last day of the year, and I'm feeling a bit nostalgic looking back at the year that was. From some of the most beautiful weddings we have ever featured on WedMeGood, to kicking up things on the WMG App its been an eventful year ..and as I sit in Starbucks sipping my Mocha Praline, I cant help but think of all the things I wish from 2018 brides

  • I wish you care less about being perfect, care more about being happy: I know I know, we churn out a ton of content on how to have that perfect skin, the perfect lehenga and the perfect xyz. But take our advice with a grain a salt  ladies, and sit back and think about what truly makes you happy. Your marriage is more important than your wedding.
  • I wish you go easy on the floral jewellery : Personally, my least favourite trend and while some elements look adorable on your mehendi, lets not drown ourselves in flowers because you look great the way you are. A floral garden you do not need to look 'mehendi appropriate'. BUT, like I said above if you love floral jewellery go ahead and embrace it- take our advice with a grain of salt ;)
  • I wish you ditch the stage, interact with your guests: Meet your distant family, chill with your friends, share a moment with your bestie and actually , truly enjoy your wedding instead of being stuck on stage with a smile plastered on your face. It's your day, make it about you.
  • I wish you forget about labels, replicas and embrace originality : Alright so you have your heart set on wearing a particular designer. I get it, but lets wear outfits that are unique, that are personal, that are you. Replicas of designer wear or wearing labels for the heck of it only makes you one of the  million brides out there trying to do the same thing. Let's embrace Indian weaves, handicrafts, banarsi and kanjeevarams to look like classic brides that don't go out of style.
  • I wish you bring back the romance in pre-wedding shoots : Enough with the props, the over the top dresses, the insane locations. Let's make pre-weddings about you, and your love. Let's capture the intimacy, the spark, the chemistry between the two of you. Let's capture that moment when you lay your head on his shoulder in the corner of your room, or that moment where you both break into uncontrollable laughter. That's who YOU are.

  • I wish you stand up against 'tradition' : Let's stop with the insane amount of gifting ( the new unwritten form of dowry), lets forget abot the girls side or the boys side, lets not worry your parents because they are getting a girl married. Instead, lets make this a celebration for two families coming together , celebrating for the love they have for their children. Cars, watches , and fancy gadgets gifted to people you love cheapen that emotion.

As we turn into 2018, I hope we can find the 'love' in our weddings. I hope we can keep the fun, grandeur and masti of an Indian wedding but infuse some soul into it. I hope we can make them intimate, personal and heartfelt, and above all I hope 2018 brides, you can break free from the pressures of perfection and embrace the  beauty in being yourself.

XOXO
