Suchita Mukherjee’s wedding looks and reels have been breaking the internet over the last few days and how! But what caught our eye was her stunning Sabyasachi lehenga which is vintage Sabya, and not available any more. Turns out, the lehenga was actually Aanchal, Suchita’s elder sister’s wedding lehenga! We were so stunned! So, what was the story here? Here is Suchita giving us all the deets, and trust us, you will be misty-eyed by the end of it!

So, it all started with my court marriage. We were supposed to have a registered court marriage two months before the actual wedding celebrations and that’s when the FOMO started creeping in.

I am half Bengali, half Sindhi and the Bengali in me realised that I was not going to have a traditional Bengali wedding. And if you have ever seen a Bengali wedding, you know they are the most beautiful weddings and I felt like I was missing out on that. So, I decided to do a Bengali wedding celebration in line with my court wedding. And you have to be dressed in red as a Bengali bride and who better than Sabyasachi to wear?

My sister wore a classic sindoor red embroidered Sabyasachi to her own wedding years ago and I always loved it. I asked her if I could borrow it and she couldn’t be happier. My vision was to look like Paro out of Devdas and she nailed it perfectly for me. This red and gold vintage Sabyasachi was perfect for this vision. It's such a classic lehenga that will look stunning years later, making it a timeless piece. So, we went with my sister’s vintage lehenga plus all her own jewellery. It was literally like passing down heirloom pieces from one sister to the other. Her maangtikka, neckpiece and even a mother-in-law’s kamarbandh, all came from the fam. It was such a sentimental moment for all of us! In fact, we both have a twinning image of both our husbands twirling us in that same lehenga on our individual happy days. Who gets such moments? A lucky few!

How beautiful is that story? Two sisters, wearing a classic beauty and celebrating their own happy times. This is a great way to go sustainable too, if you are looking to do that on your happy day. Check out Suchita’s wedding celebrations here!
