Mehendi To-Dos: Your Ultimate Final List To Get Things Done Peacefully!

BY Apoorva | 19 Mar, 2017 | 2825 views | 4 min read

Applying mehendi is every bride’s favourite function. It’s usually the first one of the entire wedding week, you get pampered and it’s the one that actually makes you realise that your wedding is actually happening! Before you get lost in all the love of it, we made a final list of things that you should do before your mehendi.

Book the artist – If you are keen on a particular vendor, book them months in advance or someone else will!

Finalize the design- Right from etching your love story to crazy themes, mehendi designs have evolved! Finalize your design before-hand so that your artist has a clear vision of what they have to create.

Pre-Prep - Before applying mehendi, do wash your hands and feet and dry them properly. Any cream or oil on your skin will act as a barrier, and minimise the mehendi absorption into your skin.

Cushions and Seating– Make sure you have proper backrest and the seat is comfortable because it’s a long ride! Also, make sure there is ample light and air so that your pictures come out well. Also keep cushions / pillows for the mehendi wala

Call the photographer half way through it- If yv hired a photographer only for a couple of hours. Call him in the middle of the mehendi and not the end, that way he will be there till the end.

Timing – A lot of brides apply mehendi beforehand so they can roam around during their function. We would advise that you get your hands done (they take a good 4-6 hours) prior and just do your feet on the actual day, that way you can get best of both worlds!

Colour Solution – Make sure your lemon-sugar solution is ready whenever your mehendi artist needs it!

Sun Protection – Though we advise against putting mehendi out in the sun, if you have an outdoor mehendi function, don’t forget to wear cute sunnies or even hand them out as favors for your guests!

Hydrate – Though people advice you against drinking water, we would suggest you hydrate after regular intervals. You can always use the restroom with a friends help, but lacklustre skin won’t help in your next functions nor your energy levels!

Parlour Woes - Do not shave or wax your arms and legs after applying mehendi. It will scrape off the upper layer of your skin, and the mehendi design will look faded. So all your mani-pedis and nail art have to be done prior to the function.

Best Colour - To get the best results for your wedding day, it is suggested to apply mehendi at least 24 to 48 hours before it and keep it for atleast 6-8 hours!

Friend in need – Have at least two friends or cousins apply mehendi before or after your function so that they can help you with free hands!

Post – Mehendi – You can opt for the clove-steam where you mash a few cloves and just put them on a hot-tava and steam your hands over. You can also apply vicks once all your mehendi is scraped off.

Dress Woes – Don’t wear anything that is loose or deep-neck if you are uncomfortable with the neckline as you won’t be able to use your hands. Wear something short sleeves, preferably is soft material and which is creaseless. You can also sport a midi-skirt that is totally trending in weddings these days!

Hair Styles – Though braid is always the favourite of mehendi hairstyles, you can have even a messy bun or a half-down hairstyle with waterfall braids. Anything that doesn’t involve touching your hair much!
