Real Brides Reveal: One Thing They Wish They Had Done Differently On Their Wedding

BY Anupriya | 08 Sep, 2021 | 5430 views | 4 min read

Every bride wants her wedding day to be a dream affair. She handpicks each element - from the colour of the decor drapes to the lipstick shade that best goes with her lehenga - and weaves it all together in the way she had always envisioned. However, once it’s all done & dusted, and the revelries are over, the post-show realisations come pouring in! This is when brides walk down the memory lane and realise a bunch of things they would have done differently if they had the chance to. Sometimes it's the colour of the lehenga, other times it’s the ceiling decor of the mandap. And when it’s not one of the above-mentioned, it’s definitely the guy they got married to (hehe...just kidding!)

Well, to ensure our brides-to-be don’t regret anything later & have it all sorted beforehand, we got in touch with some of our real brides to tell us one thing they would have done differently if they could do it all over again. Scroll through to read their responses and make their wedding regrets, your wedding planning lessons!

Include Fewer Options On The Food Menu

Since ours was a big fat Indian wedding, our parents wanted to have as many as 15 cuisines on the food menu. And even though we had good 500+ people attending the wedding, there was hardly 1% who could taste it all. As a result, most of it was left untouched and there was massive food wastage. We wish we had taken the reigns in our hands and decided the food menu ourselves.

Wear Jewellery & Lehenga That Doesn’t Bog You Down

If there’s one thing that I would have done differently at my wedding, it’s definitely the choice of wedding outfit and jewellery I picked. The lehenga was so heavy that I could hardly walk in it. I had to ask four people to lift it for me and help me reach the mandap. The neck-cinching bib necklace further turned it into a nightmare for me.

Take Makeup Trials Before Booking Your Bridal Makeup Artist

I had constantly heard good things about a makeup artist from my friends in the past. This is why I always knew that she’d be the one dolling me up on my D-day. However, when the day arrived, it just didn’t work. I tried to explain my aesthetics to her & how I wanted the look to be, but she couldn’t help but turn me into a xerox copy of her other brides. I don’t blame her because she was only following her signature style. I regret not taking a makeup trial beforehand and deciding for myself.

Hire Vaccinated Vendors

My wedding was scheduled for the end of April 2021, exactly when the second wave of Corona Virus picked up in Delhi. While we had only 20 people on the guestlist (out of which 90% were partially vaccinated), maintained strict social distancing and followed all the safety protocols, we could not escape the virus & contracted it. All 20 of us tested positive in the following days of the wedding. We later got to know that one of the vendors was not vaccinated and had contracted the virus first. I wish I had only hired vaccinated vendors for my wedding. (Psst!! Now you can find vaccinated vendors on the WMG App!)

Stay Hydrated

Wedding rituals can be exhausting, especially on the day of the wedding if you're from a punjabi family. It starts with haldi & chooda rituals in the morning and go until the pheras that take place under the taaron ki chhao. I remember I was surviving on just one glass of water for the entire day and it rightfully reflected in my phera pictures. I looked pale and exhausted. I wish I had drank enough water on my wedding day and kept myself hydrated.

Well, that's what our brides would have done differently about their wedding, what about you? Tell us in the comments. We'll include the best answers in our feature.
