We get it. Reds just don't cut it for you and some of those pastels tend to wash you out. It seems like the universe is conspiring against you when it comes to finding that elusive bridal color. Well, a lot of it is just in your head ladies. Dusky skintones can carry off fabulous colors like the ones below. Its all about picking correctly.
Peach & Orange tonesA beautiful warm peach, think the color of an apricot sets off dusky skintones beautifully. Balance it off with copper and gold embroidery and you have yourself a winner
Warm Reds or Orangey Reds
From the wedding: Anushree & RishabhAll reds aren't the same and while a bright tomato red can look a bit too garish on dusky skintones, go for either a deeper ruby red or a pale coral red. Our bride Anushree in the photo above chose to do both- a deep maroon for her sangeet and a more warm red for the wedding day.
Ink BlueRoyal, Ink blue and any other jewel tones set off dusky skintones beautifully and add a certain amount of radiance to your face
CoralChoosing the right type of coral is hard, but choose a coral with a heavier bit of orange in it as opposed to pink and you shall be sorted
Blush Pink or Dusty Pink
Photo by The Creative LensBeyond the list above, a beautiful dull gold (not a yellow gold but a pale gold) looks lovely. You can also experiment with magenta's , Pista green, and Haldi Yellow. Rememeber to choose the right hue of the color. For example: A haldi yellow would look lovely but a pale butter yellow would not. How to choose the right hue? Read on.
Make any color look good: Choose the right hue
See the chart above and all the different shades of pink on it. The ones labelled dark pink and pink are cooler tones and would look better on lighter, cooler skintones. The ones at the top are more likely to suit duskier ones. So it isn't about the color per se but the hue you choose. In general if you are a dusky, Indian skintone choose colors which lean more towards orange and gold vs colors leaning towards purple and blue. Example in the shade wheel above. Look at one color and ask yourself. Is this pink more of a purplish or blue pink or is it more of an orange pink. If the answer to the latter is yes, thats your color ! In this chart, refer to the left column for colors you like.
Other things to keep in mind
- Your blouse color matters a lot more than your lehenga skirt color, because its closest to your face. Same with your dupatta and the inner facing of it
- Silver embroidery is hard to pull off. Still to gold, copper or at max rose gold.
- Makeup is half the battle when it comes to an outfit. Choose lipstick colors in the same hues mentioned above.
