We absolutely love it when brides wear something meaningful to them, and when a bride repurposes her mom's wedding lehenga, then it truly is special. But here is a bride who wore not her mom's, but in fact her nani's treasured lehenga on her mehendi! Isn't that something? Real Bride Naina wore her nani's beautiful brocade lehenga which is over 60 years ago, and cutely enough, her masi had worn it at her engagement too! Over to her as she tells us all about it!

From The Bride:

My mehendi celebration was very cozy and intimate - exactly how I had wanted it. Big fat Indian weddings were never my thing and so I was very keen on having a small mehendi in my home with my closest family and friends. I had the privilege of wearing my Nani's wedding lehenga for this special occasion. It's a stunning brocade lehenga that's over 60 years old. It’s so timeless, in a pale turquoise with silver brocade weave. It must have been way ahead of her time back then, because it still looks so modern. I would consider it an heirloom because it’s been passed on to her younger sisters, my mother and my mausi. My mausi even wore it for her own engagement.

There's something so beautiful about the way we preserve clothes and pass them on through generations - so my decision to wear it for my mehendi function was purely an emotional one. It was extremely meaningful to me. My nani is the best grandmother ever, and I felt so grateful to be able to wear something of hers.

There is a height difference between my nani and I, so I had to get some alterations done - we added a border at the bottom with some hand embroidery to add length. We also had to put some lace around the waist since that part was coming apart (it’s a pretty old piece after all). Unfortunately she didn’t have the dupatta or the blouse, so we got those made separately.
