Understated Hindu-Christian Wedding at Laxmi Vilas Palace

BY Latha Sunadh | 27 Mar, 2017 | 9349 views | 4 min read

A multi-cultural wedding with a super unique destination - this one is it! Malvika had an unexpected advantage of using the Laxmi Vilas Palace in Baroda as her wedding venue because she worked there - how lucky, right? Keeping her wedding elegant and understated, she chose a lightweight pista green outfit for her wedding day which ensured she could twirl like no ones watching. Meet Malavika &  Jacob

"So Jacob and I  were in school together in the 10th grade in Secunderabad and only knew of each other's existence back then. We then met at a pre-holi party and exchanged glances and spoke only a day later. Post all the drinking and talking he left the party with my phone number on a piece of paper from the bar. Messaged later at night saying "Hi" and that is where it all started. We became good friends and he proposed at a party in a friends car and I said Yes," explains Malavika.

From The Bride:

"We wanted our wedding to be one big never-ending PARTY. I am a wedding planner myself and know the ins and outs of everything concerned with weddings, so we kept the rituals simple and the celebrations BIG. I planned the entire wedding with the help of my mother with inputs from our families and the groom.

My invites were not run-of-the-mill, that's why we had chosen the services of Po Tweet. Vineeta, the designer was fab at her job. My mom wrote a poem for us and I had it printed on the card which made it all the more special. The wedding had many layers to it - it started with a small Mehendi at a friends farm - a warm-up party and I partied in an Avni Bhuva creation- dhoti pants worn with a peplum top. We had a Christian wedding the next morning, a small, quiet ceremony at the church and followed by lunch in the army mess. We continued the celebrations in the evening at the Sangeet in the golf course which was crazy colourful. Our Hindu wedding was at the Dakshinamurthy Temple - a big tourist attraction in Baroda (Ours was the first wedding ever there, thanks to dad being in the Army).

"I work at the Baroda Palace so would not miss it for anything on this planet. So we had a lunch hosted at the palace and made sure I had my group picture with my friends with the backdrop of the gorgeous Laxmi Vilas Palace.
We ended the two-day long celebrations with a wedding dinner and all our families and friends by our side to join us in our new beginning," adds Malavika.

As for my outfits, it's a long story. I wanted my best friend to design one of my wedding outfits and what better that the wedding gown itself. I've been wearing Outlines by Smriti Mehta since I was in college so I knew she would make it perfect for me. For the Sangeet and the Hindu Wedding, it was Devnaagri. I came across the brand while I was browsing through Vogue and noticed a sharara on one of the models - I just knew that was it. And the next thing I know, I got my wedding lehenga too at the same store. Kavita also was kind enough to customize my dupatta with the kalash print on it because that was the theme running through my wedding and note: my kaliras had a kalash on them. For the wedding dinner, it was an Anita Dongre, an indo-western outfit with a jacket and pants," adds Malavika.
