Meet Sonam & Neil
We first met in school, Bombay Scottish when we were little kids. Little did we know that we would turn out to be life partners forever! While you may think that this is a school sweethearts get engaged kind of story, but it isn’t. We weren’t even friends in school. In fact I changed schools and shifted to Ecole in 8th grade while Neil stayed on. A few years later we happened to bump into each other and got talking about schools. Do you think our love began there? Nope! We got chatting and a bunch of my friends spoke to him about how great Ecole was and he agreed to shift schools post 10th grade. While we studied and chilled together, there was no relationship or even secret flirting between us. It was in 2016, around 7 years after our graduation; we got together for dinner and actually had a spark ignite between us. But even then things dint work out so we kind of left it there. In 2019, finally we started dating and now, we are engaged!
Tell Us About The Proposal
So we are just 7-8 months into our relationship, even though we know each other forever so I never expected the proposal to happen now. We planned this Maldives trip for my birthday and it was just that. Infact we have a trip planned in March and I was suspecting it to happen sometime in the next year. He had casually even asked me what shape in diamonds do I prefer and some other things between conversations which I had all but forgotten. But before our trip, I had gone to Hyderabad for a work trip and Neil went to my parents and asked my hand in marriage. My parents gave him their blessings and my mom and his mom also went ring shopping with him and pick out this beautiful ring. All this was happening behind my back and I had no clue that both these families met also!
Cut to our Maldives vacation where his parents also were joining us for the second half of the trip as his sister wanted to scuba dive. So one day we all were planning to take a cruise across the islands and Neil said that since everyone was coming, he booked the hotel photographer to come along on the cruise and click some family portraits so he asked me to dress up a little. He rushed me saying that we are late and took me to this private villa’s deck. Before I could understand anything, I was walking over a carpet of roses, with the entire pool filled with rose petals and Neil asking me to marry him! I turned and saw his entire family plus MY entire family (who Neil had secretly flown in for the proposal!) standing there and celebrating. And I got engaged! It was so incredible that both our families were present and the next five days were spent in just celebrating…
