Wearing flats on your big day : Here is how to do it !

BY The WMG Bride | 07 Jan, 2015 | 7756 views | 3 min read

Okay, so your worst fear is that you are going to fall flat on your face in heels under your lehenga? Or maybe those stilletoes give you vertigo and make you nauseous? Or maybe, you just walk like a duck in heels and are totally not used to it. Whatever are you supposed to wear under your lehenga then? Well if height is on your side, you should take inspiration from these real brides all of whome wore flats!

Juttis / Mojris

Bride Samudrika wore these fun, funky juttis under her Sabyasachi lehenga. With threads of blue, hot pink and emerald going zig zag across her jutti with rhinestones interspersed in between. 68-IMG_9289

Real bride Manasvi chose turquoise blue juttis with gold ghungroos to complement her gorgeous turquoise outfit!

Real bride Aanchal wore these crochet wedges under her lehenga with strings to tie around her ankle. This was a unique, rustic choice ! wedges-rhinestone

These rhinestone wedges were not only the most stunning shoes to be featured on our gallery, but also seemed like one of the more comfortable options for brides who don't want to wear stilletoes ! From the wedding in Andamans

Kohlapuris

Things to keep in mind when wearing flats:

  • Mojris or Juttis always tend to bite if worn for the first time. So make sure you walk around in them for a day or two before the wedding day to avoid blisters
  • Always have a bandaid stuck at the back of the ankle- this helps immensely with shoebites and doesnt let the sharp edges of your jutti cause a blister. Trust us, its a lifesaver and noone can see it !
  • When going for a trial, make sure you explain to the Masterji that you will not be wearing heels or they tend to add an automatic 2 inch to your height and then give lehenga length
  • If your wedding is outdoor, then total flats  aren't the best choice, your lehenga would tend to sweep the grass which gets wet during the nightime with dew and ruin your outfit
  • Ballet flats have a tendency to slip on marble, make sure you test these out beforehand
  • While Kohlapuris may be nice to wear for mehendi where it is less formal, when worn for an extended period of time the loop for the thumb can be quite uncomfortable
  • Sometimes, the most striking shoe choices are the ones that contrast - this works if you have a monochrome lehenga. For example- wearing an all gold lehenga with a pop of a pink jutti underneath, or an all red lehenga with a sparkly gold jutti adds the charm
