Dhaaga & Co. Chikankari

What began as an extremely exciting prospect for my bridal lehenga ended up being a disappointing lesson in the difference between branding and customer experience. I had a very positive initial phone conversation, shared images and details of my vision, and was led to believe that a meeting with the designer would be arranged. That meeting never materialized, and rather than receiving any meaningful follow-up, I was ultimately dropped without explanation. What makes this particularly disappointing is that this is a brand that positions itself as couture. There seems to be no shortage of time and attention when it comes to branding, promotion, and securing features in publications like Vogue—but somewhere along the way, the actual customer seems to have been forgotten. After I commented on the brand’s Instagram page about my experience, I was also blocked from their account shortly afterward. I found that particularly disappointing. Rather than addressing a customer’s concerns, the response appeared to be to simply remove the customer from the conversation. Couture should imply a level of personal attention, communication, and care that goes beyond simply selling a beautiful product. Unfortunately, my experience was the opposite. The initial enthusiasm and engagement disappeared as quickly as it began. It is difficult to reconcile the highly curated image of the brand with an experience that ultimately felt so impersonal and dismissive. A beautiful brand image means very little when the customer behind the inquiry is treated as an afterthought. Very disappointing, particularly for a brand that presents itself as couture.
