A Modern Bengali Wedding In Kolkata That Seriously Has Us Swooning!

Some weddings are beautiful, and then some feel like a beautifully written love story- and Sohini & Kunj’s Kolkata celebration was exactly that! Rooted in 12 years of growing up together, their intimate wedding wasn’t about excess, but emotion. They even had origami planes in their haldi backdrop since they're both aerospace engineers- now isn't that absolutely adorable? Think soft, artistic haldi aesthetics, a dreamy pastel day wedding, and a Bengali ceremony dipped in rich reds- every detail of their felt personal and so aesthetic! 

Meet Sohini and Kunj

The couple met on the very first day of their undergrad in 2014, both reaching early for an exam, unknowingly also arriving at the start of their love story.

Haldi & Welcome Lunch

For the Haldi, I was inspired by the timeless beauty of Raja Ravi Varma paintings, with soft, earthy tones, a quiet romance, and effortless elegance. We kept the aesthetic grounded yet playful, blending muted hues with delicate details. To make it more personal, we added a touch that felt uniquely us, origami planes suspended in the backdrop, a nod to us both being aerospace engineers. It was equal parts poetic and playful, tradition meeting our story mid-air.

Sangeet

The Sangeet was envisioned as an intimate soirée, more of a feeling than a spectacle. It was filled with music, dancing, and heartfelt speeches that turned the evening into a tapestry of laughter, nostalgia, and love.

Day Wedding

For the wedding day, we leaned into a whimsical, dreamlike aesthetic. Soft pastel florals set the tone for the daytime, creating an almost ethereal atmosphere. I instantly fell in love with the brocade lehenga. It felt regal but also different from everything else I had seen. It stood out to me and just felt right.

Night Wedding

As the celebrations transitioned into the night for the Bengali ceremony, we wove in rich red elements, bringing in a sense of tradition and cultural depth while still holding onto the dreamy essence of the overall vision. For the night wedding, my outfit was from Adi Akshoy, Kolkata. I wore a regal Banarasi with gold zari work, which tied in beautifully with the Bengali ceremony and the overall look we wanted for the evening.

About The Wedding

Our wedding took place on 7th of March 2026. Our wedding was always meant to feel like us, intimate, heartfelt, and wrapped in the warmth of the people who have been part of our journey. With just close friends and family around us, we wanted those two days to feel like a celebration of our story, twelve years of growing up together, culminating in what truly felt like the grand finale of our love story. Every detail was intentional, but never overwhelming, just enough to tell our story in the most honest and beautiful way.
