Give Back To Society! Ideas On How To Make Your Wedding More Charitable

BY Sakshi | 08 Oct, 2019 | 411 views | 3 min read

When you're investing so much time and energy into something, how about you do it in a way that gives back to society as well? Yep, having a charitable wedding is easier than you would think it is, and if every couple starts implementing maybe just one or two of these ideas we have listed below, then we can seriously do our bit. Here are some ideas which are surprisingly easy to pull off!

Direct surplus food to those who need it instead of wasting it

This is something we very strongly feel every couple getting married should do! Weddings mean a lot of extra food and wastage, and tying up with an organisation which can make sure that food reaches hungry mouths is something that takes care of two things- one, no wastage, and two, getting it to someone who can be thankful for it!

Make it an eco-friendly wedding

There are so many small little things you can tweak to make your wedding an eco-friendly affair, which can not only make it a green wedding, but save you a lot of money too! Here are some cool ideas to implement!

Donate to charity instead of accepting gifts

This is something you can mention on your wedding website or invite- ask for your guests to donate to a certain charity of your choosing instead of spending that money in buying you a gift. You can even choose to do this with the cash that you get at your wedding by yourselves if you don't want to involve the guests directly!

Donate your wedding outfits to someone who can reuse it

Sure it is special, but what if it could make someone else's wedding special too? If you don't mind parting with your wedding lehenga or the sherwani, then consider donating it to someone underprivileged who can reuse it at their own wedding instead of pinching pennies somewhere else in the wedding to budget bridal or groom outfits in.

Support local businesses and charitable vendors

When it comes to hiring people for your wedding decor, why not get someone right from the source? Hire a local carpenter for your woodwork, the local florist for the flowers- giving those direct employment who run their own local businesses. Might be more work and involvement for you, but it will be worth it if you're looking to give back to society!

Select favours with a purpose

Get locally sourced favours which benefits farmers or the people at the source instead of a big company or middlemen. Favours like organic tea, coffee or honey are great for this, as are small little pottery knick-knacks sourced right from the person who makes them or bangles from lac bangle makers! Embroidered gifts from NGOs also make for great wedding favours.

Rent an NGO's space for your wedding

Instead of opting for a resort with a garden or a standalone one, you can tie up with NGOs having lush greenery around for your wedding favours, which becomes a way for them to earn too! There are several foundations which rent out their spaces for celebrations- and the profits are used to support a cause.

Hire people for your wedding who really need the money

Whether its the mehendi walis or the performers or entertainers at the wedding, you always have an option to give someone talented and nice the chance to show off their skills and win hearts- plus, the extra money they get would be way more useful for them!
