An Intimate Bohemian Wedding With An Antique Gold Bridal Saree

BY Aakanksha | 02 Jul, 2020 | 25740 views | 8 min read

Isha & Suraj's wedding was as pretty as ever! From the wild decor with shades of bohemian intermingled with a modern vibe, to the classic outfits the couple wore, everything was downright gorgeous. Isha looked elegant and ethereal at her wedding, while Suraj complimented her perfectly in a chic sherwani. From the decor, which was breathtaking at the wedding and reception, to the entire vibe which screamed modernity and picturesque, this Cabo wedding sure ticked all boxes! So, start scrolling and trust us, you'll fall in love with just as we did.

Meet Isha & Suraj

The Wedding

As an ode to Isha's South Indian heritage, she opted for a saree as her bridal outfit. She selected a gorgeous earthy gold Sabyasachi saree which was a perfect ode to Isha's South Indian heritage, while being in sync with the modern theme and bohemian elements. The saree was an one of a kind out of production antique piece, which makes it all that much more special. Isha paired up the saree with an uncut diamond set. Suraj, wore a  sleek beige Sabyasachi sherwani which complimented Isha's saree beautifully. He accessorised with a pair of Gucci loafers, Ray Bans and a Shinola watch! All these had sentimental value as they were all gifts Isha had gifted Suraj during various occasions.

The Reception

For the reception, Isha wore a custom Payal Singhal lehenga with beautiful floral and cactus motifs hand embroidered. She completed the look with uncut diamon chandbalis and simple gold and silver bangles. Suraj went for a classic navy blue suit paired with a pocket square that matched the pattern on Isha's lehenga.

From The Bride:

Suraj comes from a Christian family, and I from a Hindu family. This, coupled with him being raised in Oman and me in the US made our multicultural background an integral part of who we were. We wanted to incorporate this into our wedding right from the start, as stated on our website- “festive boho vibe with a dash of Indian glam”. We incorporated Indian elements like our outfits and styling, and western elements like our ceremony which was led by a priest but included Christian as well as Hindu prayers. We took everything that symbolized and spoke to us, and put it together in the best way possible.

We always knew we wanted to get married somewhere tropical, because tropical locations were symbolic in our relationship. We first met at a beachside cafe in Goa in 2011. While we were dating, we spent a lot of time in Pondicherry which is a beachside town, and we got engaged on a beachside cliff in Bali, so it only seemed appropriate to get married in a tropical location. After two weeks of research, I came across Acre Baja on youtube. A gorgeous venue set in the foothills of San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico with a desert oasis vibe. It gave me major Palm Springs, California vibes, I was sold.

Surprisingly enough, we didn’t visit the venue (or Cabo) till the week of our wedding. The entire wedding was planned via research on social media and assistance from our wedding planning team. Goes to show how apps like Instagram can provide an incredible amount of inspiration and resources, as well as an excellent networking tool when wedding planning.

Decor:

Ceremony Decor: We kept our overall decor minimal, but had a few statement pieces like a colorful lush floral arch for our ceremony, which served as a backdrop at our reception. But kept our outfits and bouquet neutral, which worked well to highlight the festive bohemian vibe of our wedding.

Reception Decor: For the reception, I wanted to go for a desert disco vibe, so we did beautiful disco balls hanging off the mango trees, and a bold neon sign over our sweetheart table, while keeping the table settings, and florals simple and chic. We incorporated the disco ball idea into the seating chart as well, and had everyone’s name and table numbers attached to mini disco balls hanging off the mango tree, which made for both a gorgeous installation, and fun time for the guests to find their seats. My favorite part of the reception would have to be our grand sparkler entrance to “You and Me” Flume Remix by Disclosure. Seeing all our guests welcoming us with smiles as bright as the sparkers they were holding made my night.

Vendor Reviews:

Jewellery: GK Ratnam Jewelers, Jaipur
For my bridal jewelry I wanted a simple, but immaculate looking set. All I could find in most of the conventional jewelry stores was heavy, layered bridal jewelry. Cue GK Ratnam jewelers who are based out of Jaipur. The amazing thing about them is their attention to detail, and customer service, despite catering to a customized design requested by me. They also handled the shipping of the final product to my home in the US. They were very hands on and worked closely with me to achieve my vision. We designed a single layer choker with large Polki, laced with green enamel, finished with pearls. We also designed matching earrings, and a Maang tikka to complete the set. For anyone who is looking for Polki jewelry on a budget, flexible customizations, and hassle free shipping to the US - I can’t recommend GK Ratnam enough.

Photographer: Julieta Amezcua
Julieta was our wedding day photographer based out of Cabo, Mexico. I cannot recommend Julieta enough, she is so warm and sweet, and makes shooting seem effortless! She is truly talented and made us feel extremely comfortable throughout the entire day. When my husband and I got our photos, we were shocked to see there wasn’t a single “bad photo” of us. She has a knack of capturing the most flattering angles. Her edits are elegant, soft, and romantic - everything I could dream of. I get transported back to that magical day each time I go through our wedding photos.

Venue and Catering: Acre Baja
I’ve always been a huge fan of small intimate venues and boutique hotels over large resorts. This made finding a venue that fit our vibe extremely challenging. After two weeks of research, I came across Acre Baja on Youtube. Acre is tucked away in the foothills of San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. We knew their sustainable farm-to-table restaurant and bar, with delectable food and award winning cocktails, would be perfect for our wedding cocktail and dinner catering. The wedding ceremony was held in the garden with a peacock enclosure. The cocktail hour by the modern infinity pool, and dinner below the stars in the Mango orchard. The property also boasts gorgeous luxury glamping-style tree houses which was the perfect spot to relax and get ready in between the ceremony and reception. Acre Baja’s palm trees, gorgeous peacocks, and the mango orchard were reminiscent of the magic of India, while the award winning bar and modern-chic vibe appealed to the San Franciscan’s in us. What more could I ask for to host our dream wedding?

Make - Up Artist: Emilia Cortez
My hair and make up was done by Emilia Cortez, a Mexico based hair and make up artist. We wanted to compliment the earthy tones of my saree. We went for a neutral makeup look with lots of gold and earthy tones, and deep berry matte lip. For hair, we worked with 20-inch clip-in hair extensions to add length, volume, and drama. We let the hair down in loose curls to keep with the boho Indian aesthetic. She nailed the look and I couldn't have asked for a better makeup artist for my big day!

Planning and Design: Events by Bliss
We had the pleasure of working with Bonnie Chase and her team to design and coordinate our gorgeous wedding. Even though we weren’t able to fly to Cabo beforehand, Bonnie did an amazing job checking in regularly to make sure our design and plans were on point. The team nailed our minimal yet fun fusion vibe. I loved their vision for our seating chart with the mini disco balls! The Events by Bliss team is sweet, professional, and amazing to work with. I can’t recommend them enough!
