Bengali-Catholic Wedding In New York With A Medical Love Story!

BY Sakshi | 06 Oct, 2021 | 1885 views | 3 min read

We love weddings that show off the glorious New York skyline, and this is yet another one added to the list! Anamika and Austin's wedding was all about love and a whole lot of happiness. Their wedding was a pretty mixture of their cultures, Bengali and Catholic, and they had a wedding each to celebrate their roots. We loved everything about this one- it was subtle, elegant and looked like the couple really enjoyed themselves!

Meet Anamika and Austin

Our relationship started in the unlikeliest of places, while studying anatomy in a dingy basement lab during our first year of medical school together in Philadelphia. Among 260 students in our class, fate placed us in the same five-person lab group, and our shared penchants for late night studying found us pairing off to study together often. In between our attempts to memorize nerve and vessel branches, we realized that we shared a love of music festivals, college basketball, and all things fast food. We would soon become inseparable study partners, travel partners and then much more.

From The Couple:

Our wedding was a mix of traditional and modern reflecting both my Bengali Hindu background and Austin's Italian-American Catholic background, as well as our personalities- a love for great food, drink, and music with the NYC skyline as our backdrop. Our wedding was fully customized- for the Bengali Hindu ceremony, Austin and I both had our own baraats, I was carried in by my bridesmen and handed to my brothers for my saat paak and the following day for our western ceremony, our parents walked us down the aisle, my cousin sang, Austin's best friend officiated, his family members read bible verses and we read our own vows. After postponing our wedding for exactly a year due to the pandemic, we threw one of the first parties our family and friends attended and it was a beautiful reunion and celebration. We made sure everyone was vaccinated and/or tested negative for COVID and it worked out beautifully.
