BY Sakshi | 23 Mar, 2018 | 4512 views | 4 min read

We know how hard plus size girls find it to look for good outfits, and good bridal outfits can be super difficult to find! Yep, if you're a plus size girl, then you know what we mean! But being on the heavier side does not mean that you have to limit your options- you can be fashionable and trendy, you just have to be smarter about how to plan your outfits! Here are some tips and tricks which will ensure that you get the outfit of your dreams, and look fabulous in it!

Do not be afraid to experiment!

Try out outfits in unique colours and silhouettes for smaller functions- we love outfits by Half full | Curve by sisters Rixi and Tinka Bhatia which does some amazing clothing for curvy and plus size women!

Work trends around to suit your body

Just because you are plus size does not mean you can't be trendy! Work the trend around to suit your body rather than the other way around- you can still pull off off shoulder, cold shoulders, just alter other things to make the trend work, which gets us to the next point!

Custom made outfits are your best bet

When it comes to your bridal outfits, fit is the key, and the best way to get a good or perfect fit is through a customised bridal outfit. And the best thing is that these days that does not translate to a super expensive one. From low to high end, there are designers for every kind of budget, who will do your outfit as per your body shape and size! We even like the outfits at Kaneesha- a label that does some great traditional outfits for plus size women!

Choose the right colour and hue

Pick such colors which will suit you more. Larger brides tend to gravitate towards darker shades, but that always does not have to be the case! Apart from the skin tone, make sure you pick a colour that will make you appear slimmer. Opt for reds, pinks, blues and pastel shades like light pink, peach or salmon. Avoid stark colours like green, white or silver. Choose subtle and not stark combinations- red and pink is a good one for you! Also, try to keep the outfit monotone, which will work better!

Choose vertical designs instead of horizontal

Pick a lehenga that has a slimmer vertical design or nothing on the top and gradually gets thicker towards the bottom.

Get a longer blouse made

A longer blouse that covers the stomach is a good idea too, it will be more comfortable! But make sure it fits well and does not have too much work on it. You can opt for 3/4th sleeves which look great! Peplum blouses can also work very well!

Blouses in neutral or nude colours will look better

They do not attract the eye there- if the bottom is bright and the blouse is neutral or gold, it will give the illusion of being slimmer. Also, avoid getting a blouse with inbuilt padding made- they usually sit stiffer on the bust, making it look heavier than it is.

Pick fabrics that are flowy and not stiff

No raw silk and velvet- pick fabrics like chiffon and georgette that are light and flowy- they will drape around and sit much better instead of being stiff and making you look heavier than you are.

Use the dupatta wisely!

Your dupatta drape can really work for or against you in making you look heavier or lighter. Do not pick a dupatta with a very heavy border and drape it in a way to cover up a bit in the front. A double dupatta drape like this one will work very well- notice how the dupattas are sheer without too much work? If you are conscious about your tummy, use the dupatta to cover it up.

Do not choose large butis and borders

The larger the work on the lehenga, the bigger it will make you look! So stick to medium sized butis, motifs and borders on the lehenga or outfit. Also be careful with the use of sequins, they will look only good in moderation.

Say no to too much print or work

Too much print and business can look odd on a plus size bride- making you look heavier! Avoid it and keep everything as simple as possible!
