After years of travel, research and understanding various arts, crafts and textiles from around the world along with her fourteen years of experience as a fashion designer, Shimai has translated her passion into an online store - ‘Urvii Mantreh’, meaning divine rhythm of the earth.

With Urvii Mantreh, Shimai blends ideas of the world art in her collection through experimental design and innovative concepts whilst maintaining incredible heritage and values. The common thread in all of the work by Shimai for Urvii Mantreh is the strong focus on modernization of motifs and meticulous craftsmanship with quality in its pure form and complexity. She has also been consistently engaged with the weaver communities of Balaramapuram, Arani, Chanderi, and Madanpura with which the label co-exists. It’s an ongoing project that aims to improve their income and to make their environs humane.

Working Style

Urvii Mantreh has been focusing on designer apparel for women at their studio in Besant Nagar, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Having a keen eye for traditional and ethnic intricacy, Shimai’s label started in 2016 offers one of the most stunning contemporary ethnic outfits suited for a festive season and weddings for all the occasions.
