Here's How Bridal Makeup Artists Are Tackling Coronavirus Concerns

BY Sakshi | 20 Mar, 2020 | 1502 views | 3 min read

The novel Coronavirus has been declared a pandemic, and the government has advised to avoid large gatherings, which of course, would include weddings as well. With large scale cancellations and change of plans, the couples, families as well as the wedding vendors are affected, since this is a situation no one has ever faced before. So we asked leading MUA Bianca Louzado from Bianca Louzado Creative Make-up and Hair Design★ 5 to tell us how makeup artists are tackling the Coronavirus concerns, and how they are dealing with the crisis on hand during weddings that are happening, with precautions in place and the weddings that have been indefinitely postponed for the time being.

Hygiene

So it's not only about the bride, her family members and the makeup artists who are at risk, it's also about keeping the makeup and the brushes clean and sanitised, so infection cannot be spread. Most big weddings have guests from all over the world, and hygiene becomes an utmost priority. Here are some tips by Bianca for brides and makeup artists to ensure everything is clean and sterile.

  • Makeup artists should use masks and latex gloves while doing the makeup.
  • The MUA should wash hands properly before and after. Keeping alarms or reminders on the phone to wash or sanitise hands every 15-20 mins is a good idea.
  • IPA- Isopropyl Alcohol should be used liberally to clean makeup palettes and brushes before and after use. It can also be sprayed after the whole kit is set out for the bride.
  • Instead of mixing foundation on the hand, a steel palette should be used, which should be sanitised before and after.
  • Extra care to be taken while using lip products- lip brushes should be cleaned well, should not be shared. Instead of dipping the wand or a brush into a liquid lipstick, it should be poured out and used. Lipstick should not be applied directly from the bullet, instead some can be rubbed or scraped out to be used.
  • One should avoid blowing on brushes or lashes during this time.
  • The tissues, wet wipes, cotton and puffs should all be discarded well after use.
  • Hair brushes and hair tools should all be cleaned well too before and after use.
  • Hairstylists should also use masks (to avoid COVID-19 & inhaling loads of hairspray)

Cancellations & Postponement

So of course, everyone seems to be clueless right now regarding how to deal with this outbreak, and postponing is an idea which is good in theory, but no one knows when the situation will get better.

Bianca says. "It's disheartening, but a lot of my clients are based abroad, or have their weddings abroad, and have had to cancel (including a wedding in Italy!) I usually do get a clause in my contract that if the wedding gets cancelled under any circumstances, my fee is non refundable. But with the current scenario, it's not in the bride's hands. I have been inundated with calls from my brides due to the cancellation /postponement of their wedding. I assure them that we are all in this together and will ensure we all work this out in the most smooth way possible by rescheduling the dates on a date that I am available. They are definitely going to have their wedding, they just don't know when- so everything is at a standstill right now, till rescheduling dates get clear."
