Real Brides Reveal – One Splurge Spend You Wish You Did Not Make For Your Wedding!

BY Apoorva | 06 May, 2022 | 1369 views | 4 min read

Weddings are an expensive affair. From the wedding venue to the tiniest of welcome bags, everything can get a tad bit heavy on the wallet. While we do have DIYs and at-home weddings, most weddings are all about splurging and putting your best foot forward. But after the whole wedding shebang is done and you start calculating the expenses, some might seem more necessary than the others. So we asked our real brides what was the one expense they wish they did not splurge on and here’s what they said!

So let's hear what some of the experienced brides have to tell us!

Nimisha says

I would say the one spend I regret is over the top invites for over 1000 guests who attended our wedding. I went all out with the invitations and handmade chocolates and fancy stuff which I later realised no one really cares about. They look at it for half an hour and then its dumped so I felt that was a huge splurge that I totally could have avoided since we had so many guests, so it was a hefty sum.

Megha says

I think when I look back I would say catering. We had huge spreads of food, like all types of cuisines, Turkish, Greek, Indian, Chinese, South Indian, Chaat for all events. We even had a British high tea style food for my evening mehendi which I feel is a waste. So much money could have been saved and even food gets wasted.

Rohini says

One wedding spend that I wish I dint make for my wedding was my jewellery. On my parent’s insistence and my own will I made real jewellery for all events and now I feel that I have worn it a few times post that so it looks repetitive. I wish I did a mix of real and artificial so I would get a chance to make new real ones post the wedding. Very superficial I know but true.

Komal says

For me it was my wedding outfit. I succumbed to peer pressure and bought a Sabyasachi and I regret that splurge only because it doesn’t have any use. For everyone who keeps saying reuse it for your siblings’ wedding with a new blouse and blah blah, it doesn’t happen. Firstly, you want new outfits for your sibling’s wedding plus you don’t want to look like a mini bride in someone else’s wedding. I am considering renting or selling it to justify the spend!

Palak says

One splurge I regret is my wedding jewellery. After the wedding I got a chance to see my mother-in-law’s jewellery and even my own nani’s jewellery and I regret not borrowing those beautiful vintage pieces. They both had offered but I was adamant on wearing something new and not borrowed and I regret it ever since. Also, I wish I did not make all jewellery in gold. Could have made some in diamond or white gold which is one more regret I have.

Shivangi says

So many! My three designer lehengas, lavish and absolutely not needed floral décor, insisting my groom also wear designer outfits would be the top three. I think at least for me I kind of got too excited once I got engaged as we had very less time. I was so excited that I did everything everyone said, including the internet. So it was like post the wedding when I saw the total spend I was aghast and felt so bad. So all brides need to have a calm mind while wedding planning.

Aayushi says

I would say it would be my wedding destination venue which was Mussoorie. I wish I had an intimate wedding in the hills and then just did a reception back home. Taking the entire guest list was a major spend and people don’t even care. They keep complaining about the arrangements whatever you do so there was truly no point of it all. A small wedding with close family and friends with a grand reception would have been better.

Did you too have a wedding splurge you regret making?
